The tram in Nice began operation in November 2007. One of the best features of the system is its retractable power connectors, which allow the tram to move through the open pedestrian squares like Place Massena with no ugly overhead power lines. During this time the tram runs on batteries, which are recharged via the overhead lines that also supply the main power for most of its route.
