What we thought:
Greg Mortenson is one of those rare people who devotes his life
wholeheartedly to a cause beyond himself. We were amazed at his
dedication, sacrifice, courage, and single-minded persistence in
bringing schools to Islamic children, while insisting on the importance
of education for girls. We were glad to have read the book and
learn about his accomplishments and ongoing struggles. We only
wished his story had been better written. While
overwhelmingly impressed by the events described, we found their
telling strangely flat and lacking in the impact and emotion they
should have communicated to come truly alive.
