What we thought:
Reaction to Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress was positive,
but somewhat lukewarm. We mostly liked the story, which we agreed
had many of the qualities of a fable. Perhaps that made it less
compelling as a novel; at any rate, although we found it interesting,
it didn’t really capture our hearts, and only a few people
rated it higher than 3 stars. We did wish for some sort of epilogue
that would have told us what happened to the boys, the seamstress,
and their families after the close of the story.
