The Kite Runner

What we thought:

This was one of those books that garnered unanimous acclaim. The only criticisms were minor ones -- that perhaps some of the plot elements were a bit contrived, or that a few parts were too gruesomely violent for some tastes.

But we all praised the author's writing style and the way that this compelling story of family and friendship taught us so much about Afghani culture. The lowest rating anyone gave it was 4 stars, and most of us thought it deserved the highest possible 5.
