What we thought:
There were no dissenting voices about this book. We all immensely
enjoyed the moving autobiography
of this remarkable French woman.
Emilie overcame grueling poverty, hardship, and family tragedies
to become a dedicated teacher who opened the minds of many
children in her remote corner of the French Alps. In her 70s she
led a successful movement to prevent a superhighway from destroying
her beautiful mountain valley. Her story is compelling and inspiring.
We all rated her book at least 4 stars.
The only real criticism
was that the translation seemed a bit awkward, and we wished
we could have read it in the original French (where it was called Une
soupe aux herbes sauvages).
