What we thought:
A rare combination of a powerful story and a compelling educational
experience. We were unanimous in giving this book 5 stars, both
for what it taught us about the horrors of life in post-war Vietnam,
and for how deeply Kien moved us with his haunting retelling of
his family's ordeals.

Notes:
Thanks to Marcia and her special helper Caitlin
for their warm welcome to the hardy few who ventured out into the
cold March evening. Get-well wishes to all those who've been laid
low by this endless winter.
