| Nearby in Vence is Matisse’s Chapelle du Rosaire, the artist’s last great work. The only color in this pure white space comes from vibrant yellow, green, and blue stained glass in the “Tree of Life” window. The sun shining through the window creates beautiful moving patterns on the walls, illuminating the chapel with the joy of light and life. We couldn’t photograph the chapel itself, but these collages by Italian schoolchildren echo and interpret the shapes in the window. See a photo of the chapel’s interior here. |
