Near the Negresco, the Parc Masséna. You’ll see Masséna’s name all over Nice. I hadn’t heard of him before, so looked him up. Born in Nice, he’s remembered for his successes on the battlefield with Napoleon. A marshal of France and a prince by blood, he apparently wasn’t exactly a prince of a guy. The encyclopedia describes him as “in private life indolent, greedy, rapacious, ill-educated and morose.” This made him very different from most of the Niçois we encountered, who were unfailingly cheerful and friendly.
